Intel Claims the ARC A750 Overwhelms RTX 3060 Performance-Wise

We're at last beginning to see Intel's Arc discrete graphic cards spring up beyond China, similar to the previous thorough testing of the barebones Arc A380 by Gamers Nexus. Today Intel is delivering some data of its own: a bunch of benchmarks for the Arc A750, which by all means will be the brand's standard top-of-the-line choice. A video direct from Intel describes its performance.

Well, kind of. The brief video shows a concise clasp of the A750 running Cyberpunk 2077, then a progression of benchmarks in that game, Borderlands 3, Control, F1 2021, and Fortnite, contrasted with Nvidia's mid-range GeForce RTX 3060, both running on indistinguishable Core i9 systems at 1440p. That is a decent spread of titles to the extent as far as the performance matters. Furthermore, in those terms, the A750 shows a consistent frame rate benefit of around 15%.

That is a promising outcome, taking into account that the A380 battled to match even the Radeon RX 6400, one of the least expensive and least-performing cards on the market with a cutting-edge GPU. However, Intel's detailing of its own numbers is definitely less broad than Gamers Nexus' information. We're getting results from only five games in a single configuration. As Intel, itself says, "The performance of Arc won't look like this in all games." Cynically, Intel could have run benchmarks on 100 unique games and simply detailed the five best results versus the RTX 3060.

It's also worth noting that Intel's unique GPU architecture, as well as its significantly less extensive expertise in creating GPU drivers, will play a significant role. The Arc GPUs' reliance on Resizable Base Address Memory (ReBAR), which enables the CPU to address the GPU's internal memory directly, has already been demonstrated. The performance impact of this technique is far less noticeable for Nvidia and AMD GPUs, despite their ability to utilise it. On a game-by-game basis, it appears reasonable to expect more unpredictable performance with Intel Arc GPUs than from the expertly optimised GeForce and Radeon cards.

Still to come is the Arc desktop GPUs' broader, global rollout, which is expected later this year. We can maybe determine the Arc A750's approximate pricing by comparing it to the RTX 3060, which has an MSRP of $400.
